Products We Like

Although we are experts on vocabulary aquisition, we are often asked (usually by home educators) about products for related content areas. Below are some other curricula we love. There are many other fine products out there, making it easier than ever to homeschool. Analytical Grammar

We love AG! AG teaches English grammar, punctuation, and usage. It is designed to be taught in three grammar “seasons” (see timeline) over three years; however, it is flexible enough to be adapted to a one- or two-year schedule. Their products are for students in 4th grade through high school. AG follows a logical approach that is similar to WordBuild, and that's why we like it so much.

Sequential Spelling

Sequential Spelling is based on the classic Orton-Gillingham approach of multi-sensory instruction. Rather than teaching lists of thematic words, Sequential Spelling teaches spelling word families (e.g. consonant + eg family....Leg, Peg, Beg). This enables the child to learn spelling inductively, the exact same way they learned to speak and to walk. This form of instruction is especially effective for children who struggle with rules, have attention challenges or are dyslexic because the letters are learned in sound context rather than through rote memorization.

Everyday Education

Janice Campbell of Everyday Education is a prolific writer and speaker at homeschool conferences. Her five-year Excellence in Literature Curriculum takes students from an introduction to literature through world literature. She also carries McGuffey Readers and offers some great help for high school students from transcripts to college essay writing.

Homeschool Planet

Homeschool Planet is an online homeschool planner and much more. It directly integrates with more and more curriculum every day. The idea is for you to be able to schedule and monitor as much of your students' educational experience as possible. As an example, you can purchase integrated lesson plans for wordbuildonline ($4.95!) that will combine with any other applications you are using to create a complete daily schedule for each of your students for the whole year. It recognizes the realities of life, and makes rescheduling easy. Some applications were developed exclusively for use within Homeschool Planet, like our own Words That Matter, a series of 12 week courses that approach multiple meaning words every student should know.
