All Dynamic Literacy products are based on morphology, the study of the units of meaning in words. Just as phonology is the study of the sounds that make up words, morphology is the study of the meaningful pieces of words. A mastery of phonics helps students sound out unfamiliar words; a mastery of morphics helps students mean out unfamiliar words.

WordBuild® is available as an interactive, web-based application or in book form, and is divided into two series:

WHAT: The Foundations series is based on the most useful prefixes and suffixes in English. Through a series of activities students combine a prefix or suffix with words they already know and focus on how the meaning, spelling, or part of speech changes.

WHO and WHEN: Students are ready to start Foundations once they have mastered phonics, usually from 2nd-4th grade, although many older ESL, struggling students, and students with learning challenges benefit greatly from starting in Foundations.

DURATION: Three years online OR two years in print.

WHAT: The Elements series is based on Latin and Greek roots. Through a series of activities students combine these roots with prefixes, suffixes, and sometimes other roots. Vocabulary grows explosively when students are able to apply their knowledge to new words.

WHO and WHEN: Students are ready to start Elements once they have completed Foundations OR are in 6th grade or higher. Review of prefixes and suffixes is built into the program in case they haven't used Foundations.

DURATION: Three years online OR in print.
